Community Guidelines

Last updated 6 October 2026

Carmina is a place for people to share their words. These guidelines help everyone feel safe enough to be honest.

Be kind to writers

Respond to the work, not the person. Honest, thoughtful feedback is welcome. Insults, pile-ons and harassment are not.

Do not threaten people, encourage violence, or share anyone’s private information.

Write about anything, within limits

Poetry and fiction can explore grief, anger, love, fear and darkness. That is welcome.

But Carmina is for a general audience, so please do not post sexually explicit content, graphic violence for shock value, or anything that sexualises minors. Content that attacks people for who they are (race, religion, gender, sexuality, disability and similar) is not allowed.

If you are writing from a hard place

Writing about pain can help. If you or someone you know is in danger or thinking about self-harm, please reach out for help: in an emergency contact your local emergency number; in the US you can call or text 988.

We do not allow posts that encourage self-harm or suicide.

Keep it yours

Post your own work, or public-domain work, or work you have permission to share. Always credit others when you quote them. Passing someone else’s writing off as your own is plagiarism and may be removed.

No spam or scams

No repeated promotional posts, fake accounts, impersonation, or links meant to trick people.

Reports, blocks and what happens next

Use the ⋯ menu on a post or comment, or a writer’s profile, to report or block. Blocking is instant and private.

We review reports, and may remove content, warn people, or close accounts that repeatedly or seriously break these guidelines. Content reported by several people is hidden until we have looked at it.
